The Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association joined a number of other produce organizations to express concerns with the current conditions of transportation for the fresh produce industry. Charles Hall, Executive Director of GFVGA said, "With the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) mandate, driver shortages, and other issues, there has been considerable increases in transportation costs for our members and causing devastating effects on the industry as a whole." In order to have a balance of safety concerns and consumers reasonable access to fruits and vegetables industry organizations crafted five solutions we believe will address some of the issues.
The following letter was crafted and sent to Ray Martinez, Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Please contact Charles Hall at GFVGA if you have any questions or comments.
