GFVGA Executive Director Charles Hall joined with several other commodity organizations and United Fresh for a Farm Bill fly-in this week. Participants had one goal during their visits to congressmen and women: encourage specialty crop support for the FARM bill and push for legislation to be passed before the current bill expires in September 2018.
“With more than 60 participants making visits from across the country, I think the produce industry has made their message heard over these past few days,” Hall said. During his time in D.C., he visited offices of senators Pat Roberts, David Purdue, John Cronyn, Mitch McConnell and congressmen Sanford Bishop, Austin Scott, mike Conaway and Jody Arrington.
Hall said the Specialty Farm Bill Coalition is working on additional funding for research, state block grants, pest and disease prevention programs and other needs of the specialty crop industry.
