Farmers across Georgia and other southeastern states were severely impacted by Hurricane Michael in October. Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association along with many other agricultural organizations and the Georgia Department of Agriculture have worked tirelessly to secure financial assistance for producers at both the state and federal level.
Our congressional leaders in Washington are close to reaching a deal to fund the federal government through the remainder of the fiscal year, and as of today, that deal does not include disaster assistance. If disaster assistance is not included in this funding deal, there will be few opportunities in the future to secure these much needed resources. We need your help to push a disaster assistance package across the finish line now.
We are asking you to support a letter that Georgia Farm Bureau President Gerald Long and Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black have partnered together on to be sent to the Georgia Congressional Delegation expressing support for disaster assistance. We strongly encourage you to join others in signing onto this letter. Time is of the essence, so please take action before noon on Thursday, February 14.
