The Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (GFVGA) hosted more than 250 farmers and agribusinesses at the UGA Conference Center in Tifton, Georgia on March 5 to hear an update on proposed disaster relief packages in Washington, D.C. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Gary Black attended the meeting in person and Georgia’s U.S. senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue and U.S. congressmen Sanford Bishop, Austin Scott, Buddy Carter spoke via video conference from Washington.

“I am pleased that these legislators would break during one of their busiest seasons to make room to update our ag community,” said Charles Hall, GFVGA Executive Director.

According to their reports, the disaster relief packages that passed in the House for $3 billion and are proposed in the Senate for $13.6 billion now have the momentum to pass both Congressional chambers. From there according to the congressmen, the plan is to have the bills “marry up” on the details and go to be signed by President Donald Trump.
