After 12 years with the Georgia Green Industry Association, Chris Butts joins the GFVGA team as director of legislative affairs.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am an Athens native and proud UGA bulldog. Following a lifetime in the family nursery business, I joined the staff at the Georgia Green Industry Association, GGIA, in 2008. At GGIA, I had the opportunity to work on behalf of our
members on a number of key issues including: water, labor and immigration reform. Many of our efforts focused on increasing the visibility of the green industry to both our elected officials and the general public.
What brought you to GFVGA?
The parallels between the green industry and GFVGA are many. I look forward to helping the GFVGA team continue to advocate for growers who have an enormous impact on our state economically while providing high-quality fresh produce
that keeps us fed.
What do you like about ag legislative affairs?
Working in legislative affairs allows me to work with people who know the value of hard work and sacrifice. Having the chance to work and support their work and advocate for Georgia's fruit and vegetable farmers is a rewarding opportunity.
What are some of your favorite things to do in your spare time?
Family and friends are the focus of most of my free time. With two kids in college and one left in high school, there is always something to do. I'm hopeful that we'll have college football for the fall!
What is your favorite fruit or vegetable?
I love summer with fresh vegetables. Peas, corn and zucchini are my favorite.
